Hi! Welcome to my happy place, where I first learned to code. This site is no longer my main personal website, so please head on over to https://www.this-is-emily.com/. You can see the code here. I started making this site in November 2017 as my first-ever web development project. It's been fun!
I believe that empathy is the key to our success as a community. The human race cannot truly progress and overcome barriers unless we can step into each others' shoes.
Authenticity is so important to me throughout the realms of life. When you are honest and bring your true self to a situation, the group can work toward more holistic solutions.
I want to learn all I can, and never stop. Learning and tackling new problems expands the mind and opens up doors that weren't visible before. I am a big fan of tackling seemingly insurmountable problems! I love learning about times when people approached problems in novel ways, and I seek to learn all I can from others by keeping an open mind.
Diversity is essential to the tech industry and all industries because combining narratives allows problems to be solved. In Korea, for 5 years, I was a western face in a crowd of Korean faces. At times I craved the wildly different points of view I grew up with. Creating communities where diverse ideas are sought and encouraged is so important.
I never stop learning. I am a people person and I love connecting with those around me to learn more, and the act of learning is just one dimension of those connections.
I am hoping to solve meaningful problems together as a community. I am looking for ways that my new tech skills can change the world to be a better place. I’d love to learn skills outside my paradigm while doing it!
